Astronautics faculty Wins AIAA Propulsion Award

ASTD lecturer G. P. Purohit has won the 2005 Wyld Propulsion Award, given annually by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

The Wyld Propulsion Award is presented for outstanding achievement in the development or application of rocket propulsion systems. The award consists of a certificate, engraved medal and a rosette pin, which will be presented to Dr. Purohit on Wednesday, 13 July 2005, during the awards luncheon held in conjunction with the AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference, Tucson Convention Center, in Tucson, AZ.

An AIAA Senior Member, Dr. Purohit has more than 25 years of experience in space propulsion, initially at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and currently at the Boeing Satellite Development Center in Los Angeles, CA. A PhD in engineering from UCLA, this Boeing Technical Fellow has served on the AIAA liquid and electric propulsion technical committees. Dr. Purohit also teaches satellite propulsion, power, and thermal courses at UCLA and USC.
